Passing Islands

Boston Design Center
The Loft (Suite 500)
December 9 – December 12
Reception: Wednesday, December 11 5-8pm
Artist Talk: Wednesday, December 11 6:30-7pm

Christopher Schade’s Island paintings communicate states of consciousness based on the visual form and sensation of distorted landscapes. Geological forms recall animal, human, architectural and celestial forms through the many languages of painting, from hard-edged to gestural. Pictorial conventions such as perspective and consistent light sources are unmoored. These oil paintings and small works on paper with acrylic, graphite and colored pencil depict lustrous geometries of tidal forces. Schade’s works investigate vanishing contours, camouflage, and spaces beyond the island’s horizons, where shifts occur to glimpse changing forms.

Passing Islands is curated by The Sphinx Northeast (Kari Adelaide and Max Razdow) and will be on view in The Loft (Suite 500) at the Boston Design Center, 1 Design Center Place, Boston MA, on Monday, December 9 through Thursday, December 12, 2019. Daily hours are 9 am to 5 pm, and a reception will be held on Wednesday, December 11, from 5-8 pm, with an artist talk from 6:30 -7:00 pm.
